There is nothing 'Occultic' about The Legal Profession... even though before being called to bar you must eat Bread and Soup - Dr Gabriel Arishe

Dr Gabriel Arishe
Constitutional Law lecturer and scholar, Dr Gabriel Arishe has said that there is nothing occultic about the legal profession. Responding to a question from an attendee of the CLASFON Academic Seminar, who was concerned about the manner things were conducted in the recent call to bar ceremony which he attended, which to him, looked kind of occultic, and he heard also that the Law school students were made to eat certain kind of meals, like bread and soup in the compulsory dinners in which absence was not an option. How would this seemingly 'occultic' practices be combined with the Christian faith?
A student asking his question

Replying to the question, Dr Arishe said "there is nothing occultic in the Legal Profession or in the process of being called to bar. The three dinners are of course compulsory, missing one will mean not being called to bar that year, and punctuality is essential. Once its time and the door is locked nobody, not even the Chief Justice enters after that happens".
On the bread and soup allegation which sounded gross to the ears of some participants in the seminar, Arishe threw more light on this practice, "what you actually have in the dinner is in fact, bread and butter which is served first, after that is taken away pepper soup is brought, after that you have rice, then dessert. All these is done in the span of just 45 minutes, and when its time for an after dinner lecture, eating stops, whether you have finished eating or not".

Citing the reason for this, "as a Lawyer, you are being groomed for having dinner with the queen [of England], that is how it is done in England, and is the practice which we borrowed over the years. And having 45 minutes for all the meal courses served, you are being taught time discipline. But there are Law school courses that teach you these things so you are well groomed and should be able to do this comfortably. You are not even given spoons to use, what you have is knife and fork, and sincerely (in my time) the knives were so blunt and some even rusting, and the chicken can be so big, you just want to pick it with your hand and eat, but you can't".

Concluding on the issue, "so you can see, nothing is occultic there. In fact, Niki Tobi was the National Secretary of Deeper Life and also a Supreme Court Judge, there was a Law School director who is a Pastor of a Pentecostal church. Of course that is not to say that some Lawyers do not involve in occultic practices, but that is the case with almost every profession even (and sadly so) in Christian ministry. In fact, we need more Christians in the Legal profession. Yes we need you there, so that there can be more uprightness and justice in the system. So when you are a judge for instance, and they bring 50million bribe for you, you will not accept and may even come out publicly to say you were offered bribe."
"It is possible to be a Lawyer and not sin. Even in criminal cases, contrary to what people think when defending an accused person, you are not saying he did not commit the crime, rather you are ensuring that due process is followed in conviction, in fact you are upholding justice. As a Lawyer you are a custodian of the law and a judicial officer. Do not begin to get scared that you will be ineligible for heaven after doing such a case, in fact while doing it, if rapture take place, you will be taken also".

Dr Arishe was a speaker in the CLASFON Academic Seminar which held on Friday, 15th of January 2016, on the topic, "The 3 Gs - God, Gang and Grades".
