Austus Ceaser Ekeoba's Cup {ACE} 2016.

Today, the 3rd edition of the Austus Ceaser Ekeoba's Cup was played!
Ceaser's cup as it's popularly referred to, is an annual football memorial match, dedicated to the memory of the late Austus Ceaser Ekeoba of the graduating class of 2015, whose untimely death on May 6th 2014 shocked the entire faculty of law and the university community at large.

He was then the class representative, a presidential aspirant, one of the privileged few to represent faculty of Uniben and the country Nigeria at the Jessup cup held in Washington DC.

The late Ceaser was renowned for his friendliness, his charm, advocacy, eloquency amongst many other attributes that endeared him to the heart of all law students and staff.

A Lot has been done in a bid to immortalize the late Ceaser, the most monumental probably been the naming of the Jural court as "Austus Ceaser Ekeoba" court by the faculty management!
But also too the then captain of his class football team (Kuzi Magaji) in conjunction with football stakeholders, alumni inclusive, came up with the present Ceaser cup!

Where winners of the Dean's cup each year will get to play against the entire faculty, alumni included for the title of "Dominus Litus!"

The maiden competition was a hit! A huge success, that saw the presence of over twenty alumni's and over a hundred people (Law students and non Law students) gathered to witness the epic event, the following year was also a relative success with the presence of a few alumni's and lecturers like Barrister Odion, Barrister Julius amongst a few others.
Both games were won by the defending champions, Bench of Jurists (extant 400level class), back to back, 3-2 and 4-1 respectively.

This year's competition was suppose to kick off by 3:30pm but did not kick off till past 6pm.

The match had a handful of alumni from the graduating class of 2015 (Ceaser's class), and other law students present.

The memorial started with a minute silence in honor of the late Ceaser by all gathered, after which the match kicked off proper.

The 300level constituency, winners of this year's Dean's cup against the rest of the faculty, with Emmanuel Agabi as the new coach of the faculty.

The game was even until the 300level constituency conceded a penalty late in the first half, which was converted by Prince Akenzua (400level student) for Advocate team. The first half ended with the 300level side missing more than a few clear cut chances.

Few minutes later, after the break, the 2nd half kicked off with the entire Advocate team been replaced with new crop of eleven players.
They pressed on and before long, from a beautiful cross by Godson Udeme (400level student) , Garrick Nosa (500level student) doubled the lead from a free header, in front of goal.

The 300level side proceeded to make their first change of the game with Lebari Dekina, captain of the side coming in. Barely minutes into the game, Lebari reduced the deficit with a beautiful shot on goal which had, the already despondent 300level fans jumping for joy.

It was not to last though, as few minutes later, Advocate team replied, this time, Godson Udeme (400level student) was the scorer as the laid home what was a beautiful goal.

It was game over, or so everyone thought, that's until he game took an interesting twist with Lebari Dekina again scoring a long range free kick that had Advocate team and supporters stunned with the 300level fans running into the field of play hysterically.

With the score at 3-2 and few minutes on the clock, everybody was on their feet with the question on the mind of all, is there a dramatic comeback?
Unfortunately it was not to be as the referee blew the final whistle and the game ended same!

The event came to a close with the sharing of refreshments for all the spectator's and players present and a vote of thanks by the president - reminding lawsans of the forthcoming law week, and appreciating the class of 2016 for their support in making the event a success.
Segun Ademola, who spoke on behalf of the 2015 class, appreciated all for coming and prayed that the legacy be upheld.
