LAWSA DEAN'S CUP! The Story So Far!

Lawsa Dean's cup happens to be one of the biggest event of the Lawsa calendar and the main sporting event in the association's calendar.
It's a competition that most law students look forward to every session.
Mainly, hitherto, it was an event that was centered around football but the administration of the last director of sports (Kuzi Magaji), introduced other sports such as chess, athletics, female football amongst a few others.

This year, the competition kick-started on the 25th of January 2016 with soccer.

The teams were divided into two groups.

GROUP A

500level,
200level,
100level.

GROUP B

400level,
300level.

With this, the loser from group A plays the loser of group B, for a semi final spot.

The first match of group A, and opener for the competition was between 500level and 100level.
The 100level team.

Team 500level

The match kick-started by 4pm, the venue was education pitch 2.

The first half of this encounter was barren, not because of lack of opportunities,  for the 500level hit the woodwork a couple of times in the first half from set pieces and a couple of missed clear cut chances for the 100level too.

Captains of both teams.

The second half however was filled with a lot of goals and drama too, as the 500level side scored the first goal from a beautiful cross, met with an equally beautiful header. The 100level side however, refused to back down, as they equalized almost immediately and went on to take the lead, from this point on it was drama, as confrontations arose between 500level and 100level and subsequently between 500level and some members of the 400level constituency who had come to watch the match.
In the end though, 500level equalized from the penalty spot and the game ended two goals a piece.

The next day, the 200level constituency lost to 500level by three goals to nil, with garrick scoring the first hat trick of the competition.
Team 200level.

The third fixture saw, 100level lose to 200level by a lone goal, in a pitch of play that note worthily was not up to standard of a competition of this sort.

With all the matches for group A played, the log had -
500level with four (4)points from two matches and a three goal lead.
200level had three (3)points and a two goal deficit.
While 100level were last on the group with just one (1)point and a goal deficit.

GROUP B -

Saw favourites of the competition, two times defending champions and three times finalists face off with 300level.
Team 400level (boj).

It was a very tense encounter and with alot of spectators too.

It was a match that saw the 300level side, eager to prove a point and a 400level side, struggle to live up to expectation.

The first half ended without a goal from either side nor any real attempt.
The second half however, was exciting as both sides pressured to make a difference and the 400level finally did in the 75th minute of play, with a beautiful header from James Uro, a goal many thought was the decider but that was not to be, as with less than two minutes added time, left on the clock the 300level side equalized, with a goal that was greeted with so much glee and hysteria from all their teeming supporters, there were however, pockets of protests and displeasure from the 400level team and some spectators on the touch line, who believed the goal was offside, all the more so, seeing that the lines man on the far end of the pitch had raised his flag but contrary to all expectations the referee over ruled and allowed the goal. The match was subsequently decided by penalties which the 300level side won by four goals to two(4-2).

The following day, 29th, the defending champions had to slug it out with the loser of group A, (100level) for a final spot in the semi finals.
The match itself was drab, with the 400level side dominating yet unable to translate such into goals, they missed alot of wonderful opportunities in both halves of the game and finally the goals had to be decided by penalties also.
Monumentally, the 400level side popularly referred to as "boj" (bench of jurists) lost to the 100level team by five goals to four (5-4). (a side they defeated only a month ago in a friendly game by two unreplied goals)

This result sees the champions crash out of the competition for the first time ever, as 500level face off with 100level while 300level square off against 200level for a place in the finals of the 2015/2016 Lawsa Dean's Cup!

The question on the lips of all in the faculty is "what happened to boj?" "how did they go from a team that was unbeaten for two long years to a team that couldn't win a single game in the entire competition? "
Questions, questions and more questions.

To make a bad day even worse, less than two-hours after the exeunt of the male team, in the female football event, we saw 400level girls (defending champions also) face off with 100level girls in the final of the female competition after a walk over against 200level and 300level for failing to show up.
Some members of the female 400level team.

The match was played at the sports complex and as expected was very interesting and funny as spectators were seen rolling on the floor literally because of some funny and awkward kicks and clashes as can be expected from an amateur female football game, however though we saw some beautiful dribbles and spectacular saves also.
The first goal of the game came in the second half, an own goal conceded by the 100level side under pressure, the 400level celebrations were cut short as the 100level girls equalized soon later.
At full-time, the game was one - one (1-1) a piece and penalties  were  the needed decider, which the 100level girls won by six goals to five (6-5), making them the new female champions of law.
