LAW WEEK 2016 RECAP - SPORTS FIESTA / JEAN CARNIVAL!

Faculty of Law, University of Benin was a beehive of activities as the Law Students Association celebrated its annual Faculty Week from 6th to 12th. It was a highly anticipated week as it would be the first "Law Week" students from the 100level and 200level class would witness, due to the inability of the 'Lauretta-led' administration to put together the event last session. The week long programme kicked off with a Legal Symposium/Lecturer Appreciation on the 6th of July, and climaxed with the LAWSA Grand Dinner on sunday, 12th of June (Originally slated for 10th of June).


SPORTS FIESTA / JEAN CARNIVAL


Day 2 in the calendar of the Law week was scheduled to be a triple threat occasion.
A Trade fair, Sports Fiesta and Jean Carnival.

While a trade fair could not be put in place, the atmosphere was charged up and 'sporty' as Lawsans from all levels turned up en masse to participate in the event.

The faculty of Law library field had been converted to a mini pitch for the five-a-side tournament, while a tent was set up for the indoor games.
Games made available for Lawsans included Ludo, Table tennis, Chess, Scrabble and Electronic games on PC & Playstation 3.

DJ Etio did not disappoint as he supplied suitable background music in the midst of all activity.

"Augustus", "Josh", "Odiri" and "Royal" students of the 400level class did just enough to keep the place lively with astute commentary.

It was a day with events big enough to accommodate the participation of all Lawsans. With most cladded in the Law week T-shirts and Sweat shirts, worn on jeans, they busied themselves and engaged in the games available while others preferred to be spectators, with more of them glued to the five-a-side tournament.

The event was not devoid of VIPs as it was graced with dignitaries of the University.

The University Director of Sports, Dr Mrs Egbase, Coach of the School team Coach Onome, and former Director of Sports of the SUG now a staff, Baye Osagie graced the occasion.
Dr Mrs Egbase did the official kick off for the five-a-side tournament.

Six teams emerged from the 5 classes in Law.
There was a little controversy as to the component members of the sixth team, whose members were also members of the 400level constituency who already had a team registered.
This controversy was laid to rest as clarification as to the development emerged.

The five classes had each produced a team, but the total number had to be six; attempts were made to assemble a sixth team with component members from each class but were not successful, thus the 400level students not in the first team, assembled another team and registered courtesy Augustus Ndiyo; they had the 400level class 2nd strip as their jersey for the tournament.

 The 400level team [first] aka BOJ FC emerged as champions beating the "Augustus Ndiyo team" in the final by a lone goal.

Almost immediately, the jean carnival proper was afoot, as we saw Law students from different levels come out watch

and also to show case their various talents, with the likes of "ice-kid" from the 500level constituency and "Imade" from the 100level constituency, thrilling spectators with wonderful dance steps.

The carnival also provided an avenue for gifted vocalists like "Yuki" from the 400level constituency amongst others to mesmerize the audience with beautiful renditions that got everybody within earshot amazed!

The carnival ended finally with a "dance, dance, dance" as Lawsans from all levels took to the dance floor.
It was sight of joy, as we saw Law students from different backgrounds, different classes, dancing together as one, allowing themselves to be dazzled by the deftness of the D.j.

In the end, it was a day to remember as everybody went home estatic.
